Frequently asked questions
How do you convert CGPA to percentage?
CBSE publishes the conversion as percentage = CGPA × 9.5. So a CGPA of 8.6 is roughly 81.7%. The multiplier is a CBSE convention, not a universal rule — many universities use their own formula, which is why it's editable here.
Is the 9.5 multiplier accurate for every board?
No. It's specific to CBSE. State boards and universities often publish a different multiplier, or a conversion table instead of a formula. Check your institution's own handbook before using a converted figure on an application.
How is percentage calculated from marks?
Add the marks you scored across all subjects, divide by the total marks available, and multiply by 100. The calculator does this across as many subjects as you add, and works with different total marks per subject.
